Hurricane and Storm Damage Claim Denials Accidents
Hurricanes are a fact of life here in Florida. As these storms seem to increase in intensity every year, we are hearing from more and more clients whose homeowners insurance claims for hurricane damage are being denied. This is not right.
The State of Florida requires homeowners to insure their property and many of the damages caused by hurricanes are covered by basic policies (the exception is flooding, which requires a separate flood insurance policy). As long as your insurance policy is in good standing and your home’s damages are covered by the policy, your claim should not be denied.
The Hurricane Deductible
Florida does allow insurers to apply a “hurricane deductible” to their policies, but all this means is that you will have to pay your deductible before insurance will pay. It does not mean that you do not have hurricane coverage.
